Together with two signed typewritten letters on headed notepaper, one in its original envelope, from Searle realating to an exhibition of his war pictures at the museum in 1958. A little light rubbing to the corners and spine tips with obvious spotting to the covers and endpapers. Elsewhere the spotting is very light and limited to the marginal edges of some pages. All edges gilt, pale yellow endpapers, 116pp with 4 engraved plates. The book is in much better condition than is usually found and unusually the boards have been illustrated with similar illustrations to two of those in the book. It is likely that, as with copies of this edition, the boards are made from timber recovered from the wreck. There is rubbing to the spine tips and minor loss of 1-2mm at the foot of the spine and also to the boards where there has been rounding to the corners with minor loss to the bottom corner of the rear board. VG. 10 x 17.5 cm contemporary, full leather with five raised bands ad gilt stamped double line border to the front and rear, viii 132+ 48pp tables. The binding is firm but there is some loss to the spine tips and rubbing to the corners edges and boards. There is a split in the leather at the head of the front joint measuring 2cm and faint initials visible across the centre of the text block. The binding remains firm. Internally, there are notes on the endpapers and a tipped in note to the front paste down and another set of notes laid in at the rear.
