Thoreau (1817-1862) was an American transcendentalist writer. Walden was first published in 1854. This edition was published by Easton Press in 1981 as one of its "100 Greatest Books Ever Written" series. Octavo, 7 5/8" tall, in red leather with gilt ornamentation on front and back covers, four raised bands and gilt title to spine. Pink colored ribbon with matching pink moire silk endpapers. Smyth sewn binding, archival paper, all gilt edges. First edition, first printing, no dust jacket, as issued. No names or markings. A fine, bright copy of a finely produced edition of this great American essay.
