Text appears to be printed on varying types of paper, with some parts toned heavier than others.

Red cloth with gilt titling and black palm tree to front board, black leaf border to top and bottom edges of front board and spine. Rebacked with original spine laid on. Spine cloth darkened, soiling to boards, small tears with slight board exposure at fore edge and corners. Small stain and small loss to fore edge of fpd, rest clean. Signed in black ink to verso of frontispiece: "Author's copy / with best wishes / Charles E. Taylor / M.D. / St. Thomas / May 6/96." Endpapers and last 6 pp are advertisements for St. Thomas businesses, including hotels and shops, several liquor stores, a bookstore, and a Havana Cigar store.

Exhibition postcard from American Institute of Graphic Arts in New York laid in, with what appear to be wine stains from a lively art opening. Signed on front flyleaf in blue ballpoint by Hermann Zapf, and below in brown ink by his wife Gudrun Zapf [Von-Hesse], also a calligrapher and typographer as well as a bookbinder. Introduction by Noel Martin. Colophon states: Set in Linotype Optima and printed at the printing office of the Stempel foundry in Frankfurt am Main. The offset reproductions were printed by K.G. Lohse in Frankfurt am Main.

Binding gently cracked but holding. Black and white photo illustrations throughout. A story of Arctic exploration and life among the Eskimos, written for children and centered around the adventures of Peary's 6 year old daughter, Marie "Ahnighito." At rear, laid in and pasted on are three news clippings spanning decades and relating to the Peary family: "Peary's Daughter Marries Mariner," "To Unveil Peary Memorial" (dated in ink 1922), and "Peary's Grandson Killed" (dated in ink 1946).
