It speaks of a West we all know--growing pains and all." Bill Schilling was President and Founder of the Wyoming Heritage Foundation and visionary for Leadership Wyoming, a program at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Association copy, inscribed to Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Herman Wouk on the first blank: "For Herman -- who gave me encouragement when I needed it! Stewart." A nice inscription and association. Wouk won the Pulitzer for The Caine Mutiny in 1951 and is best known for his other historical novels about World War II, as well as nonfiction about Judaism. Udall's A Quiet Crisis, meanwhile, is held up alongside Silent Spring as galvanizing the environmental movement. A very good copy with sunning to board edges, a couple spots of faint foxing to the first page of the introduction by John F. Thick cream paper stock with a faint background portrait of a smiling Updike. The poem was originally published in "The New Yorker" in 1992, and here celebrates the publication of his "Collected Poems: 1953-1993." The broadside appears fine, but has not been examined out of frame; the frame is solid wood, painted black, in good shape except for some chipping of paint to lower edge, mainly, and little to upper. With wire at back and ready to hang.
