Description:
Gibbs Smith, 1990. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Signed on front free endpaper by all contributors except William Kittredge: Stewart L. Udall, Patricia Limerick, Charles Wilkinson, and John Volkman (four signatures). "July 1990" is written, perhaps in a separate hand, at the top of the same page. With a laid in note from the Governor of Wyoming Mike Sullivan, on his official stationary card with a gold State of Wyoming seal, dated 11-19-91: "For Bill Schilling, We would like for you to have this book--enjoy. It speaks of a West we all know--growing pains and all." Bill Schilling was President and Founder of the Wyoming Heritage Foundation and visionary for Leadership Wyoming, a program at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Apparently he and Sullivan were also Rotary Club members together. Fine book with one minor dent to lower front board at middle. Still fine. Fine jacket in mylar. ALS.

Description:
Harcourt, Brace, & World, 1968. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Association copy, inscribed by Udall on the front free endpaper: "Best wishes from Stewart Udall at Mercersburg, PA, April 1988." Just above that inscription is the ownership signature of Maurice K. Goddard, who spent 24 years as Sercteray of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources (1955-1979), creating 24 new State Parks during his tenure, adding 130,000 acres to the system. He thus is justly known as the "Patriarch of Pennsylvania State Parks." A nice association in light of Udall's conservation emphasis as Secretary of the Interior and afterward. Very near fine book with just a little rubbing to edges of blue cloth boards; in a very good jacket with light rubbing and a little soiling, some minor wear to corners and spine. // Wood (+) River (=) Books specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, and environmental literature, with a special passion for association copies and…

Description:
Holt, Rinehart and Winston, New York, 1963. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Association copy, inscribed to Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Herman Wouk on the first blank: "For Herman -- who gave me encouragement when I needed it! Stewart." A nice inscription and association. Wouk won the Pulitzer for The Caine Mutiny in 1951 and is best known for his other historical novels about World War II, as well as nonfiction about Judaism. Udall's A Quiet Crisis, meanwhile, is held up alongside Silent Spring as galvanizing the environmental movement. A very good copy with sunning to board edges, a couple spots of faint foxing to the first page of the introduction by John F. Kennedy; in a very good dust jacket with creasing/light wear to corners and spine ends. // Wood (+) River (=) Books specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, and environmental literature, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions.

Description:
Knopf, 1993. 1st Edition. No Binding. Fine. A framed broadside featuring Updike's poem "July," signed at the upper right. 11 x 23.5 inches framed. Thick cream paper stock with a faint background portrait of a smiling Updike. The poem was originally published in "The New Yorker" in 1992, and here celebrates the publication of his "Collected Poems: 1953-1993." The broadside appears fine, but has not been examined out of frame; the frame is solid wood, painted black, in good shape except for some chipping of paint to lower edge, mainly, and little to upper. With wire at back and ready to hang. Please note: This item can't go media rate, so shipping will be at cost via USPS (an additional shipping fee will be requested after getting a quote from the post office). // Wood (+) River (=) Books specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, and environmental literature, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions.
