Mary, a Protestant, came to the thrones following the Glorious Revolution, which resulted in the deposition of her Roman Catholic father, James II and VII. Mary reigned jointly with her husband and first cousin, William III and II, who became the sole ruler of both countries upon her death in 1694. Pierre Francois Basan (1723-1797) who was a French engraver and publisher.One small spot.

1770. Copper-line engraving. 350mm by 250mm (platemark). 'Grandi come gli oringinali'. Wall-paintings from Herculaneum. From 'Le Antichita di Ercolano' (The Antiquities of Heculaneum), which was a collection of images of archeological finds from the excavations at the Roman city of Herculaneum. It was published over a 40 year period from 1744 to 1792 as the excavations continued. Many different artists and archeologists of the day worked on it.

Vauquier (1621-1686) was a French etcher, draughtsman and gold-engraver. He was skilled in drawing flowers and particularly excelled in engraving flowers and other decorations.

The genre painter and portrait painter Anatole Vely (1838-1882)was born in Ronsoy (Somme). He studied at the Academie de Valenciennes and then under Emile Signol at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris. Vely exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1866 to 1880. Philipp Hermann Eichens (1813-1886) was a German engraver working in France in the late 19th century.Foxing spot on publication line.

1700. Copper-line engraving. 620mm by 385mm (platemark). Paolo Veronese (1528 - 1588) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance in Venice. He adopted the name Paolo Cagliari or Paolo Caliari and became known as "Veronese" from his birthplace in Verona.

1721. Copper-line engraving. 165mm by 100mm. Peter Barwick (1619-1705) was an English physician and author. At the Restoration he was made one of the Charles II's physicians in ordinary, and was known in his profession particularly for his treatment of smallpox and all sorts of fevers. Thin margins.
