Top edge has slight dusting. Blue boards, DJ is a more purple shade of blue with gold lettering. A nice copy.

A beautiful book with ivory spine with gilt lettering and vines, boards have a delicate scattering of violets. DJ is stained and torn in several places. Pages are tight and clean.

Some chipping and wear on front and back covers. Title page is present, but detached, paste down book plate on inside front cover, marbled endpapers, text is clean with some foxing esp. on pages with illustrations. Overall a lovely book.

Originally printed by Harper & Brothers in 1865, reprinted in 1972. Interior is clean and bright, the binding is tight. This journal takes the reader on the notorious march through Georgia in 1864 by General William Tecumseh Sherman. 394 pages.

"including *Social, Commercial and Legal Forms* Letter writing, Invitations etc, also valuable suggestions on Self Culture and Home Training." Illustrated.

Head and tail of the spine of the dust jacket are chipped. Now protected in a mylar jacket. Gorgeous black and gold end papers, silver stars throughout book. From the jacket, "This is the first time that Wilde's famous play has been illustrated with drawings that were interpretations of the text and not mere decorations." Some foxing throughout book, otherwise clean with a tight binding.

This first edition of Wilde's play, limited to 500 copies, was published a year before his masterpiece, "The Importance of Being Earnest". Publisher's bookplate front pastedown, hinges starting, fading to spine cloth. Pink cloth with gilt trim and gilt decorations, edges untrimmed.
