The covers have one small crease to the front and are toned and marked but still very good, while internally the pages are very clean and fresh.

Original brown cloth blocked in metallic blue in a geometric pattern to the spines and front boards. The spines are lettered in gilt. Floral patterned endpapers. Spines rolled a little, some light spotting to endpapers and title pages but generally a clean, tight and bright copy. Overall a better than very good set. Alexander Pollock Watt (1838–1914) was the first successful British literary agent. His agency, started in 1875, is still active today and is, in fact, the longest-established literary agency in the world. He acted as Besant's agent, and also his literary executor.

Original dark green cloth blocked with elaborate blind decoration, spines lettered in gilt, floral patterned endpapers. Cloth very slightly rubbed at extremities and a few thin white streaks to the front board of volume one and some light foxing to the decorative endpapers, otherwise clean, tight and bright throughout. Some minor foxing to the fore edges but this is a lovely clean and unread copy, with some page gatherings still unopened. In the rare original fawn paper dustwrapper which reproduces the designs and lettering on the book in red. Publishers adverts on the Inner flaps. Some darkening to the spine and chipping to the edges but overall a very good example and rare thus.

The compartments ruled and lettered in gilt. Triple blind ruled borders to boards with gilt corner dots. Circular blind tooled centre panels with a gilt harp and birds to the front board and the initials W B and floral devices to the rear. Board edges and turn-ins ruled in blind.
