Berkeley: University of California Press Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. (1981), viii, 214pp, index, illustrated. VG in VG dj. Alice James, (1848-1892), was the sister of William and Henry James. From the dj: "The only daughter of the most intellectually remarkable of American families, Alice James made of invalidism a perverse kind of vocation. She was to die of breast cancer, but for most of her adult life she was ill without a clearly nameable disease, her history marked by mysterious symptoms, baffled doctors, and obscure diagnoses. 'Getting myself dead' became for her the ironic equivalent of her famous brothers fiction and philosophy.".

Bloomington: Indiana University Book. Good. Soft cover. pp135-151. Removed from INDIANA MAGAZINE OF HISTORY, Volume 59, No. 2, June, 1963. Wrps. G. An interesting article. The inns during the period 1775-1850, were characterized by a lack of class distinction and very primitive accommodations. The author mentions that the "ubiquitous bedbug was emphatically no respecter of persons" but doesn't mention lice and fleas which, I understand, were also frequent "guests." .

London: Henry G. Bohn Book. Good. Hardcover. 1854, pp817-1252, plus 24-page publisher's catalog, index for all three volumes. Covers somewhat discolored, extremities moderately worn, contents VG. With an appendix of poetical fragments, rendered into English verse by various authors, and a general index. Each volume complete in itself. From Bohn's Classical Library series. Athenaeus was a Greek rhetorician and grammarian, who lived during the end of the 2nd and beginning of the 3rd century AD. Several of his publications are lost, but the fifteen-volume Deipnosophistae mostly survives. It is a work of literary, historical, and antiquarian references set in Rome at a series of banquets held by the protagonist Publius Livius Larensis for an assembly of grammarians, lexicographers, jurists, musicians, and hangers-on. It is filled with the type of scholarly material that learned men might discuss over dinner, thus the title. .
