The memoir of James Yates published in 1986 by Shamal Books. Yates was born to sharecroppers in Quitman, MS in 1906 and left for Chicago at the age of 16 where his interest in labor politics was intensified through his involvement with organizing the Dining Car Waiters Union, a landmark in black trade union history. By 1935, he joined up with demonstrations against Mussolin's attack of Ethiopia which encouraged Yates to raise money and medical supplies to distribute in country during this time of conflict.
