1839. ALS to Rev. W. B. Sprague. Good condition with minor stains. The letter is dated January 11, 1839, and concerns the forwarding of letters between the two men. Birney's autograph is scarce.

1804. Clement Biddle (1740-1814) Revolutionary War officer and merchant. Participated at battles of Trenton, Princeton, Brandywine and Portsmouth. Aide-de-Camp to General Green; Commissary General of forage, 1777. Close friend of Washington, with whom he spent the Winter at Valley Forge. Letter dated 1804 Re: dividend of North American Bank with postmarked address leaf.

Portland, ME, 1851. Signed William Pitt Fessenden letter from his law firm, Fessenden & Deblois. Fessenden was born in New Hampshire in 1806 but would spend most of his life in Maine. He was a lawyer, Representative, Senator, and later the United States Secretary of the Treasury under Lincoln during the Civil War. Fessenden was vehemently against Slavery and helped start an Anti-Slavery Coalition while in the Maine State Legislature. The letter itself is in good condition. On line 5 of the letter there is a section crossed out in ink with a correction above it. Stampless letter with address on back. Tear in the upper right corner. Some small ink lettering on back of the letter that was done later. Dated Sept. 15, 1851 from Portland, ME.

[6] pp. This in very good condition with folds and a bit of framing tape on the top edges. Barton writes to friends who helped care for the grounds of her estate. She describes her gardening and encloses $5.00 for the work done. She ends the letter by mentioning that her hired house maids had left her employ.

1867. Fair condition with an old, typed description of the contents of how and how it was obtained. The preface Dumas was working on was perhaps for the 1867 edition of Monte Cristo.

Boston: Joseph Greenleaf, 1773. Original binding with partial loss of the spine label Front fly leaf lacking and the last page of text which is an advertisement is mostly lacking and a photo copy has been added Evans 12702 Greenleaf abridged Burn's work for an American audience 386, [1] pp pp.

Sandusky: Henry D. Cooke, 1858. Good condition with light wear and minor nicks to the cover. A scarce memorial published 45 years after the battle 49 pp pp.

Boston: Russell and Cutler, 1803. 13 pp. Good in original wraps. Light stains to the inside of the front wrap and flyleaf. Imprints 5124.

Philadelphia: by Clark & Raser, for Solomon W. Conrad, 1818. Boards show wear and soiling, and the interior is moderately foxed especially to the end papers and the top edges of the pages are stained Orfila (1787-1853) authored the first book on toxicologic forensics; that work was translated and published in Philadelphia in 1817 This work published in 1818 provides information on treating people who were poisoned and a lengthy discussion of additives in wine Shaw & Shoemaker; 45183 170, [10] pp pp.

London: Neillgo Publications, 1974. Revised edition with illustrations. 316 pp. Good in original cloth. This was was not published by the Church however Norman C. Priddle bookseller to the Trustees of the Church did help revise this edition but was not pleased with the results. A photocopied letter is tipped into the front of the book in which Priddle states that the has many problems but is still useful. This Copy is from the Wertkin collection, and he included some articles and information on the New York city Catholic Apostolic Church which closed in 1990's. Sometimes known as Irvingities the group believed that the Second coming was imminent. Rare.

Farmington: The Knowlton & McLeary Co, 1907. Second edition. 146 pp. Very good condition with light wear and minor light damp stains to the edges of the covers. Not a particularly rare Shaker title but this copy has a good inscription reading, "To dear Sr. Laura Beale with many loving thoughts from your gospel Sister Ada S. Cummings. 6.8.13." Ada Cummings (1862-1926) Was a Sabbathday Lake sister who was a schoolteacher, fan maker, Office Sister (see the Shaker Image, 1994). Laura Beal was a Shaker at Shirley, Harvard, and Mt. Lebanon. She left the Shakers in 1923 and spent her last years back in the Harvard area. One of the few books that we have had that was used in the Harvard community. Ericson, 5237.

Amana: Amana Society, 1890. 6"x 8 1/2". Very good with light wear to the lower left edge. Very good color lithographed label from this famous Iowa communal group who operated a textile mill.

[New York]: Privately Published by Meyer Levin, 1972. 2nd. 86 pp Good Soiling the wraps and minor creasing With a label on the front cover asking why this play is forbidden to be preformed Scarce.

London: John Watts, 1740. Contemporary calf with spine r-backed. 488 pp. plus portrait. Good Portrait laid down and interior foxing. Cibber (1671-1757) was abrasive and talented and earned the laureateship in 1730. 488 pp. pp.

New York, 1907. Zacker was a twenty-four-year-old housekeeper in New York City and was accused of stealing from her employer. Good condition in storage envelope and a clipping on the case.

Boston: J. Gill, 1777. [24] pp Good with a raised library stamp on the front cover and spine reinforced with a stitched repair Includes an address against monopoly and extortion Evans 15381, Drake 3272, ESTC W22510.

Maine, 1864. A patent application for a wood horse submitted by Enoch Whittemore of Oxford, Maine on February 9th, 1864 with a reply from the U.S. Patent Office rejecting his application.

Chicago: Nina Van Zandt, 1887. 91 pp. Binding damp stained. Spies was anarchist and one of 4 men hung in Chicago in the aftermath of the Haymarket affair.

New York: E.M. Murden & A. Ming, Jr., 1827. 20 pp. Bound with The Confession of Jesse Strang, Who was Executed at Albany, August 24, 1827, for the Murder of John Whipple. Albany: 1827. 24 pp. Both titles worn, foxed and stained. Stang was led astray by Whipple's wife and he finely agreed to shoot her husband. Strang succeeded in killing the husband but ended up confessing to the crime and implicated the wife. In the end she was not charged, and he was hung. McDade, 933 and 935. Bound in recent black cloth.

S.N. Dickinson, 1842. Fourth Edition. Fourth Edition. Boston: S.N. Dickinson, 1842. 70pp. Removed. Good condition. This is the 70-page edition and there is also a 60-page edition. John was the brother of Samuel Colt who invented the famous revolver. John murdered a man and tried to ship the body to New Orleans. He was found guilty, was then sentenced to hang but opted to kill himself instead, stabbing himself in his own heart. McDade, 205.
