CDV of French Novelist George Sand by French Photographer Nadar [Gaspard-Félix Tournachon] CDV with albumen print with strong contrast. Bottom edge trimmed. On printed Nadar mount with Sand's name written in ink on verso. Very Good Condition. Carte de visite of famous French novelist George Sand by pioneer French photographer Nadar, circa 1870. George Sand (1804-1876) was likely the best known and most popular French novelist of her time. Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin de Francueil chose the masculine pseudonym George Sand at the age of 27 but was a strong advocate for women's rights. A prolific writer, Sand wrote some 70 novels, plus plays, political tracts and commentary. Photographer Gaspard-Félix Tournachon (1820-1910) went by the name Nadar and was not only the 'photographer of the stars' but also a pioneer of aerial photography. Nadar, in 1863 commissioned prominent balloonist Eugène Godard to construct a huge balloon and sold balloon trips, complete with dinner, to paying guests.

This very scarce 1931 Auto Court Guide of Pacific Coast Highways contains two coastal road maps from Vancouver, B.C. down to Tijuana, Mexico, as well as lists of towns, auto court lodgings, and National forest campgrounds all along the Pacific coast. In excellent condition with almost no wear, and scarce; no copies in OCLC or commerce as of January 2024.

Fort Sutter Papers, 1845-1862, printed in an edition of twenty copies under the direction of Edward Eberstadt. This, apparently complete collection, of the Fort Sutter Papers is loose and unbound. Collation shows all 39 parts present, with some likelihood of several facsimile pages. Up to 25 leaves printed on a whiter paper. Overall, collection is in very good condition. Each of the 39 sections are laid into a lightweight original printed folder. Folders have some edge wear, and several are detached. As is. Six items, including five signed by Nevada senator John P. Jones (1829-1912). Very good condition overall. Collection details below. John P. Jones was a politician who served as a Republican United States Senator from Nevada for 30 years. He made a fortune in silver mining, serving for a time as superintendent of the Crown Point silver mine in Gold Hill, Nevada, which was part of the Comstock Lode of silver ore. In 1874, Jones joined with fellow Nevada senator William M. Stewart, and bought controlling interest in the Panamint silver mines near Death Valley in Inyo County, California; that same year, he bought Colonel Robert S. Much of what we learned about Charles P. Jackson came from a newspaper clipping in this collection, written by Jackson himself for The Pioneer, assisting in the paper's quest to record the lives of members of the Western Association of California Pioneers. Charles Pringle Jackson was born on June 4, 1820 in Sheldon, Genesee County, New York. He ran a general merchandising business in New York and Indiana before succumbing to gold rush fever, relocating to California in 1849. Manuscript lyrics for the song "The California Brothers" as copied by Theophilus Francis Rodenbaugh in 1857, for John G. Morgan, Mount Kirk Seminary. The song was put to music in 1855 as "The Dying California of the Brother's Request Ballad", published by Oliver Ditson of Boston. The lyrics by an unknown lyricist were probably first published in the early 1850's in a New England newspaper, the "New England Diadem and Rhode-Island Temperance Pledge." We find little about the Mount Kirk Seminary or John G. Morgan other than one reference that the seminary was in Pennsylvania. T.F. Circa 1880. 2 cabinet cards both from the studios of Thomas Houseworth with blind embossed Houseworth stamps in lower right and printed mounts with Houseworth backstamps. Likely taken at the same session as Crawford's outfit appears to be the same. The Crawford card is toned and mildly soiled, Apparent writing erased at top of photo mostly in margin. Possibly attempt of Crawford to sign the card. He does sign the card at bottom of photo and on mount, "JW Crawford "Capt. Jack" and then again on verso, "Yours Truly J.W. Crawford Capt Jack". Card is creased two inches from bottom--more noticeable on verso. Card with Crawford and Granville is very clean with very light soiling on front and slightly heavier soiling on verso. "Our watermelon and cantaloupe seeds are the best. Our yellow Danver and Prize Taker Onion Seeds are home-grown and can't be beat." Complete with numerous steel cut engravings. We've never handled this seed catalogue despite living so close to Grand Junction. Evidentially rare.

Roughly translated document concerning the approval and storage of holy relics, likely those of St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, bishop of Sant'Agata dei Goti, a Roman Catholic diocese in the Province of Benevento, Campania, southern Italy. From what I can discern, this document is a record of the examination of St. Alphonsus Ligouri's relics and their return to proper storage; it is unclear if Archbishop Dechamps examined them himself or if it was merely done by his mandate. Photos themselves are rich and clear but at angles we see small scratches and silvering. Boards are soiled and chipped. Inked manuscript on recto, "Cont. Photo 2264-2266" plus image 2264 has penciled "Chadwick Carrier". Verso is blank save for one with faint pencil markings. Cornelia J. Chadwick of Newport, Rhode Island received patent number 1,096,489 on May 12, 1914, which is an improvement on her earlier 1899 patent. We enclose a copy of the 1914 patent. "The objects of my present invention comprise impartation of greater security and comfort to the patient during transportation during transportation...being essentially flexible carriers adapted to the transportation of wounder or otherwise disabled...."
