Field tests found the guns awkward to use, which perhaps is why this little instruction sheet was printed. Online sources claim the 6th Ohio Cavalry was one of the few units to employ these guns. A larger order was placed by the British Government. Several of these broadsides have…

Duel of the Stags, A Poem with An Epistle to the Author by Mr. John Dryden, H. Hills, Blackfryars, 1709. 16pp. 4 3/8 x 6 3/4 inches. String-bound pamphlet without wrappers. Moderate foxing. Good Condition. Clipped signature includes manuscript text on both sides and measures 2 x 6 3/8 inches. Includes bold signature and Dec. 1685 date. First published in 1668, this likely pirated edition was published in 1709 with commentary from John Dryden, the author's brother-in-law. Howard and Dryden had a falling out years prior to this publication. Robert Howard was a long-running member of parliament. As an author, Howard wrote primarily for the stage, although he also wrote some poetry, and two political treatises. John Dryden was an English poet, literary critic, translator, and playwright. In 1668 Dryden was appointed England's first Poet Laureate and had a prolific output of poetry and plays.
