Jacket has chipping, tears, and damp staining to rear, overall wear. Grey cloth over boards with phoenix design in red on front and on spine with same color lettering. Some dampstainingto tail of spine and back, dampness also slightly impacts lower interior margin on a large section, but only to the margin and minimally internally. Corners bumped. Romae (Rome): Hermannum Scheus, 1648. 3rd. Fine. Modern binding of archival cloth over boards with new end papers. Red speckles to fore edges. Water stains within the text, but all text and images are easily legible. With many historical portraits depicting key figures in the Eighty Years war. An Italian Jesuit, Famiano Strada, was an historian for which this is his best-known work. Book 1 of 2, regarding the Eighty Years war in the low counties (Belgium and The Netherlands). Pages: 648  Dimensions: 3⅜ x 5⅝ x 1½ .

Paris: Suiuant la Copie Imprimee, 1643. 1st Thus. Very Good+. Elegant binding with gold inlay. Vellum with several chips and cracks at the front joint head and tail, but still strong. Gilt fore edges. One page has a punched stamp from a former library. Cloth bookmark present but detached. Covers slightly warped. Senault Jean Froncois was Superior General of the Oratory of Jesus and a famous preacher. In the first part of of this book, Senault, writes about passions in a general sense. Printed in Florence in 1508, this edition is believed to have been based on Pontano's original manuscript which was brought to Florence in 1503 by Giovanni Corsi. Based on Aristotles, Nicomachean Ethics, and building on St. Thomas Aquinas', Summa Theologiae, this work has come in and out of fashion for centuries. The concept of Prudence espoused in this work is heavily influenced by 15th century Italy and Pontano's deep belief in loving ones family, especially your spouse and children. Bound in early 19th century full vellum with gilt lettering inside label on spine and with inked date, mostly worn, on bottom of spine. The movie, also dated 1946, starred Susan Hayward (pictured on the front of the jacket), Bill Williams, and Paul Lukas. In original, unclipped, jacket in protective sheet. Minor chipping at the head/tail of spine, minor creasing at some edges. Bound in black cloth over boards with a green bat and 'A Tower Mystery' on the front and green label and lettering on the spine. Light rubbbing at edges.  Solid and square. Endpapers with photographs from the film; bookplate from former owner on front pastedown under the jacket turn-in. The interior is toned due to the type of paper used, but it is clean and clear of any markings or inscriptions. William Irish was the pen-name of, Cornell Woolrich.
