Napoli: Nella Stampa di TarquinioLongo, 1617. Worn vellum binding. 208 pp. Lacking the front fly leaf and folding map of the region. Some foxing and light stains. A scarce guide book to the region of Naples Italy with with lovely and sometimes odd prints.

London: Bell & Daldy, 1865. 4 vols. Bindings rubbed, minor loss to the head and tail of the spines. The interior has moderate foxing especially to the fly leaves and 1st few pages of each volume. Also, some folding plates are foxed. Tissue guards lacking. Still an attractive set of this remarkable diary of life in 17th Century England. All illustrations are present. Each volume has the book plates of former owners Irving Grinnell and Irving Bowdoin Kingsford. These men were the grandnephew and great grandnephew of Wahington Irving.

London: MacMillan and Co, 1914. 316, 307 pp. A lovely set bound in blue morrocco and marbled paper covered boards. In very good condition with minor rubbing to the bindings Madame de Sévigné (1626-1696) was remarkable woman writer known especially for the many letters written to her daughter. The letters vividly capture her life and thoughts. Eventually the letters were published, and this dictionary is useful in explaining many of the people and places she visited.

1790. First Edition. This continuation of Samuel Johnson's Rasselas (1759) by Ellis Cornelia Knight is an excellent work with captivating provenance. On the front pastedown lies the pictorial bookplate of none other than acclaimed sculptor Anne Seymour Damer (1748-1828). Damer came from an upper-class Whig family and was often referred to as a "female genius" in her time. She was incredibly talented in the arts and has credited her interest as a sculptor to her mentor, David Hume. The plate itself was designed by Agnes Berry and shows a young woman kneeling before what is perhaps a memorial of Damer herself as it is listed on front of the sculpture. Beneath it, a laurel wreath encircling a sculptor's tools and a shield flanked by dogs featuring a set of wings. Damer would one day choose to be buried with the ashes of her favorite dog and her sculptor's tools. Mount Lebanon, 1895. 48 pp. Good condition in wraps. Compiled by Hollister this small pamphlet includes a vision of the spirit world by Catherine Allen, poetry, and a piece on confession of sin.

Good in dust jacket which is chipped on the rear panel. with minor soiling to the endpapers. From the collection of book editor and rare book dealer Louie Howland. The title page is signed to Howland by Bethany and Tasha Tudor. A small drawing of a dog is included with Tasha Tudor's signature. Also included is a card and envelope dated 1995 with a lengthy note to Louie inviting him to visit.
