All edges gilt, pale orange endpapers, 188pp with 6 full page black and white illustrations and numerous others within the text. The boards are a little faded on the front and spine. With pushing and rubbing to the corners and spine tips. Internally there are two gift inscriptions dated 1862 and 1915. The rear free endpaper has been replaced at some point. There is some spotting throughout, more obviously to the prelims and pages facing the full page illustrations. An unusual collection of tales with a moral. Top edge red, xii 288 (2) with 16 tipped in coloured plates with captioned tissue guards and 88 black and white illustrations. The boards are clean and bright with some fading to the spine and a little pushing to the spine tips. Internally, there is a gift inscription dated 1916 to the front free endpaper, a small 1 cm bruise to the bottom edge of p176 not affecting the image and with no loss and occasional very light marking. Unpaginiated 37 fairy tales from the Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Andersen with 8 full page colour plates by Anne Anderson and 90 black line illustrations within the text. In original dust jacket. The boards are clean and bright with a little shelf wear and some rubbing to the spine tips and corners with tiny splits at the joint tips. There is a small corner crease to the top corner of the front board. Internally, without name, inscription or bookplate and just the occasional spot mainly on the text pages facing the colour plates. Together with two signed typewritten letters on headed notepaper, one in its original envelope, from Searle realating to an exhibition of his war pictures at the museum in 1958. A little light rubbing to the corners and spine tips with obvious spotting to the covers and endpapers. Elsewhere the spotting is very light and limited to the marginal edges of some pages.
