The interior is clean, clear, and crisp in as new condition with a single pencil note on the first blank verso. With illustrations and decorations by Henry Hutt and T. C. Lawrence. Illustrated endpapers. Endpapers are stamped with owner's stamp and having loaned it to a club. Half-title stamped, "Louis Lehnert." Many illustrations, some colored - these have tissue paper protectors bound in. Green boards with red lettering on front and spine with illustration on front. Decckled long and bottom fore edges, gilded top fore edge. Interior lightly and evenly toned, otherwise clean and clear; a few minor creases to margins, and spots in margins. Slightly cocked, bumped corners, rubbing to edges and hinges.

First edition, first printing in original pictorial red cloth over boards with the image of a woman in a dress, title, and author's name inside a frame (all dark) on the front and gilded lettering on spine. The spine is slightly sunned, corners with very slight wear. Pencil notes on front pastdown and ffep. All edges deckled or rought cut with some spotting. The interior is evenly toned with spotting to title page, and infrequent spotting elsewhere. Book slightly split at cernter with sewing visibile, but fully holding. A good+ copy of this rare printing from the author of "The Beetle" and other mystery, horror, thriller, romantic novels of the late 19th and early 20th century.
