Octavo, [four volumes]. Full brown calf, double-ruled gilt covers. Title in gilt on red morocco label affixed to spine, with decorative gilt embellishments. Slight bowing to covers, otherwise solid text blocks. Light wear to corners, faint toning to endpapers, occasional touch of foxing to leaves. A beautiful example of Homer's classics. Alexander Pope's translation of The Iliad was first published in London in 1715 by Bernard Lintot. Pope's translation of The Odyssey followed in 1725, also published by Lintot. This set of both works is an early edition of the Pope translations, published in Edinburgh.
