It borders the state of Assam to the west, Arunachal Pradesh and part of Assam to the north, Myanmar to the east and Manipur to the south. The state capital is Kohima, and the largest city is Dimapur. It is one of the smallest states of India. The Kabui (also known as Rongmei) Nagas are one of the major indigenous communities of North-East India.

1856 . concertina-style folding 4to. album (36 x 24.5 cm), comprising 18 single-page oban, and 15 diptych yoko-e colour woodblock prints, of which 14 single- and 12 double-page are by Toyokuni III, 1 single-page by Yoshitora, 1 double-page by Kuniyoshi, 1 double-page by Kunichika and 2 single-page parodies by Hiroshige, folding between embossed limp covers, title label pasted to upper cover, the lower with an ink inscription, dated 1880, in German, partially disbound. Toyokuni III was one of the greatest exponents of such depictions of Kabuki classical Japanese dance-drama scenes and actor portraits, vividly capturing the stylised expression and elaborate make-up of the performers. This was one of the great themes of Ukiyo-e (pictures of the floating world) woodblock prints, popular from the 17th to the end of the 19th centuries. An attractive book by the 'David Roberts of South Africa'. Inspired by his friend, the writer and fellow artist, Thomas Baines, Bowler embarked on the Waldensian in December 1861 for his tour of the eastern frontier districts, returning at the end of January 1862 with numerous drawings which formed the basis of this book. The views are reproduced in treble tinted lithography and show localities that achieved fame during the eastern frontier struggles. In his introduction the artist expresses the hope that his work 'if not found very useful in the library among more exhausting books of travel... will be thought ornamental in the drawing room.' Vasil'eva, slight rusting to staple otherwise a fine copy. A charming Russian fairy tale illustrated by Zhenya Kovarskaya who was only 11 years old at the time. Kovarskaya was incredibly industrious for her age, designing several books for the Detskaya Biblioteka series, with her first appearing when she was just 10.

First separate expanded edition; 16vo; preliminary leaf with device, title-page, 40pp; original grey cloth printed boards, age-toning to margins and slight toning to covers,; a fine copy. A scare work by Maxim Gorky The story is based on a speech the author gave about his love of books at a meeting of the society 'Kultura i Svoboda' [Culture and Freedom] in Petrograd in 1918. He opened the speech with the words 'Let me tell you citizens, about how books gave me reason and feeling..'. The speech was hence published in the newspaper 'Novaia Zhizn'' under the title 'About Books'. Gorky later expanded the speech for its separate publication four years later. Kak ia Uchilsia is not only a scarce work in its own edition but is not included in the author's complete works.

Viktor Zamirailo (1868 - 1939) was a member of Mir Iskusstva [World of Art] from 1911 through to 1924 and was an active participant in the group's exhibitions. Having studied at the Kyiv School of Art, he went on to work closely with Mikhail Vrubel and Viktor Vasnetsov in the wide ranging realms of book design, church murals and metro station decoration.

The Whitmills were gardeners in Hoxton who specialised in fruit culture and developed a system of tree grafting. This influential book gave expert advice on grafting and fruit tree care throughout the year and explained innovations in forcing stone fruits, raspberries, and, especially, grapes. First published anonymously in 1726. Henrey 1497; Janson pp.423-424. All editions are rare, ESTC records this one by only one copy, at the British Library.

First edition. 8vo (24 x 15.5 cm), 464pp, 48 black and white illustrations after photographs, maps in text; publisher's green cloth gilt, spine faded; overall an attractive copy. An account of an unsuccessful expedition to climb Kanchenjunga, the world's third highest peak (unsuccessful). However the team were successful in ascending other peaks in the Himalayas such as Jonsong Peak. The party led by G. Dyhrenfurth and included the author attempted Kanchenjunga twice, but unfortunately due to avalanches could not complete the climb successfully and tragically resulted in the deaths of two climbers. Smythe was a fine photographer and one of the most prolific pre-war climbers taking part in many of the most famous expeditions. Neate S119

A limited edition of Pushkin's historical novel based on Pugachev's rebellion of 1773. Scarce personal reminiscences of Conway's 1892 Karakoram expedition.Eckenstein (1859 – 1921), was a member of the expedition led by Sir Martin Conway to the Baltoro Muztagh region in 1892. Unfortunately Conway and Eckenstein did not get on, and Eckenstein withdrew from the expedition after six months. In Kashmir, he conducted bouldering contests for the locals - a form of free climbing without the use of ropes or harnesses. Eckenstein collected his letters and diary notes from this expedition into the present book.Nowadays he is best known as the inventor of the modern crampon and as an innovator in climbing technique and mountaineering equipment. David Roberts' magnificent images of Egypt and the Holy Land rank amongst the finest topographical views of the nineteenth century. Roberts made a two-year journey to the Middle-East commencing in 1838, and whilst there executed numerous watercolours from which the finest were selected for the publication; The lithographs were executed by Louis Haghe. In order to help fund the project, Roberts produced a deluxe subscription edition, from which this lithograph was taken, which is notable for being the only edition to have original hand-colour, which would have been executed under the direction of the artist.
