UNCLE HANSI'S WWI PATRIOTIC TRIBUTE TO ALSACE & FRANCE - A BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED HISTORICAL VOLUME FOR CHILDRENHere is one of France's Sumptuously Designed Historical Volumes for Children. Each of the 100 pages have beautiful color illustrations - full page or smaller color illus designed within the text by Hansi & Huen. Folio size with red edges- with decorated eps of flying birds in shades of gray & white. The front inner hinge is cracked but tight, a vertical newspaper clipping (2 1/2" x 4 1/2") has been pasted onto the center of the inside front cover's ep - dated Feb 15, 1915. Endpaper bottom edge has 3 neatly repaired closed tears, and very slight loss at the bottom corner of 1st few pages. Spine tips and corner rub, gilt on cover dulled - still a very good copy. Uncommon. May need extra postage depending upon destination or weight

A SCARCE LITTLE BLACK SAMBO AN OPERETTA FOR "JUVENILE VOICES" PUBLISHED BY J. FISCHER & BRO. FOR SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENTS.Music arranged and libretto written by Henry P. Cross. INSCRIBED BY CROSS dated 1937. Inscription is personal and a bit wacky. Written in 1936 - the 3 characters speak in stereotypical black dialect. Book's owner F.E. Cross wrote his name in pencil at top edge of cover. He was probably related to the author. There are 2 pages of advertising at the back of the book - for children's musical school plays. The back cover has illustrated advertising for "Peter Rabbit" and "Goldilocks and the Bears" Operettas - both by Henry P. Cross. The front cover is black over orange title & illustration of " Little Black Sambo". There are 2 small chips at the bottom edge and a crease. Each color plate is accompanied by a loose tissue gd (darkened).Corner bump & rub, light rub at spine hinge, spine has a few faded very small dark spots,inner front hinge was cracked but neatly repaired. Early Gotham Book Mart label on rear ep.Additional plate is VG++. The original envelope has partial splits at the ends but has been neatlyrepaired with archival mending tape. This very hard-to-find Limited Edition with the great Rackham illustrations is housed in a custom silk-lined, gilt lettered chemise and tan cloth slipcase. Rare to find it with extra signed plate &envelope.
