Light dust-soiling to top-edge of book block, but internally fresh. Some sunning to top-edge of boards and spine, with some occasional light soiling, and joints are just starting at the top-edge. Very good plus.

Second English language translation, within a year of the French edition. 12mo. xii,263 pp. Contemporary binding of red morocco-backed marbled boards, with gilt-stamped spine title. The binding is darkened at spine and top-edges of boards; fore-corned are rubbed and rounded. One leaf (E2) has marginal loss at bottom forecorner, not affecting text. It is clean within, and should be rehinged. Mme de Genlis (1746-1830) was a prolific and very popular writer in her day, as well as a talented teacher. Her works were translated almost immediately into English. And one of her former pupils, Louis Philippe, became King of France.

Limited edition; this is number 690 of 962 copies printed on velin marais. Berard's illustrations are printed in black, grey and sanguine. 152 pp. Large 8vo., printed paper wrappers. Very faint dampstain throughout bookblock, most visible on the end leaves. The printed wrappers are slightly puckered; the glassine wrapper is browned at perimeters, edge chipped, and soiled. Very good overall.

The Minim friar Mersenne (1588-1648) was a mathemetician and music theorist, as well as Descartes' agent in Paris; he is perhaps best known in association with Mersenne primes and for his masterwork, Traite de l'harmonie universelle (1627). La Verite des Sciences marks his crossover from theological and philosophical writings.

Few scratches and moderate shelfwear to boards. La Revue de Photographie was published annually from 1903-1908.

MS. STRACHEY, John St. Loe. THE LABOUR PARTY. The manuscript text, 9 typewritten pages of an article printed in The Independent, issue of September 27, 1924. The title has been altered by an editor to "The British Labor Party" (and was changed again in the printed version to "Diluting the British Labor Party"). There are numerous other small corrections in an editor's hand. The author's home address is typed on the first page. Strachey, a political writer of liberal and pro-union views, was editor of the London Spectator from 1898 to 1925. He contributed monthly articles, of which this is the first, to The Independent. The manuscript has some tears and small chips, and one larger chip from the last page which affects one corner of the text. This is a very good copy.
