First French Edition, translated from the German. Issued by "Bibliotheque des chemins de fer." Selections, adapted by the translator, to form a continuous narrative from four of Sealsfield's stories from his Lebensbilder aus beiden Hemispharen (Zurich: 1834-37). A former ordained priest in Prague, Carl Anton Postl lived in the United States working as a journalist from 1823 to 1832, partly in Louisiana. He was the author of the great Texas novel, The Cabin Book. The only copy for sale online (1/21/21) is rebound; described by a dealer as "rare" in 1929.
