Two very scarce original albumen photographs documenting the logging of Woodlawn, Oregon which about 1880 was a small rural farming & logging community on the edge of what at the time was unincorporated Albina. Although the image has scratched in the negative O.S. Palmer, this actually appears to refer to Orville Allen Palmer (1847-1923) who ran a small logging operation in and around Albina, East Portland, and later in Boring, Clackamas, OR supplying the Vancouver and Lucia Mills operated by Loring C. In addition to the invaluable comparison provided by this multi-lingual edition, there is the excellent bibliography of all the important editions and translations of Virgil up to the early 19th century. Polyglot editions of theological and religious works are fairly common, but not for classical authors such as this work.

First edition of this exceedingly scarce race program for the first Six-Day Bicycle Race sporting event to be held in Portland, OR during the Great Depression, featuring world class riders. Six-Day bicycle races on specially built velodromes were the iron-man events of the late 19th and opening decades of the 20th centuries. In 1899, laws were passed forbidding cyclists to race for more than 12 hours a day, so promoters arranged the events with two-man teams who were required to be on the track at all times with one rider resting in a small hut on the inside of the velodrome bowl, often covering 2800 miles during 146 hours of continuous riding.
