(Includes ad for contemporary books by William Dean Howells, titles published 1887-89.)This is the English-language debut of Maupassant's stories (the British version followed two years later). The most famous story here is probably "The Necklace."
Copy is Fine with straight and solid binding and vivid dye and gilt. The pages are toned and should be handled appropriately to their age. Despite this, the book was apparently unopened past the introduction until I got it.
The downside of this is that the glued binding has never been broken in -- an operation that ought to be done slowly.
Wear is limited to imperfections, with three faint water spots in the dye on the front cover, similar small flaws in the silver and gold decorations, and a very small tear in the material above… Read More
