Description:
St. Paul: Privately Published Book. Good. Hardcover. 2nd Edition. 1904, 384pp, portraits. Spine somewhat faded, extremities moderately worn, else G. Harlan Page Hall (1838-1907) was the founder of the St. Paul Dispatch in 1868 and devoted most of his life to journalism. This book is based on personal reminiscences, and relates many of the political contests from the beginning of the state through the early twentieth century. From the author's introduction: "It has been my aim to confine myself to political contests; not so much between political parties, but rather internecine struggles within the ranks of the party which has been dominant most of the time since the formation of the territory of the State of Minnesota. If the Democrats do not appear as frequently as the Republicans it is because the Republicans have been so much more numerous that they (the Democrats) did not have as much to fight about.".

The hydration process slows down as it proceeds and appears to follow the relation: hydration thickness is proportional to the square root of time. The variables that influence the hydration rate are mainly the temperature experienced by the object to be dated and its chemical composition. Methods of estimating effective integrated field temperatures and composition variables of obsidians are discussed.".
