Greene's original screenplay for the film version of his 1958 novel, INSCRIBED on the first page to noted film critic Clive (Hirschman).  There are a few brief notational marks in the script by an unknown hand, in both ink and pencil.  The film, directed by Carol Reed, starred Sir Alec Guinness, with a supporting cast of Burl Ives, Maureen O'Hara, Ernie Kovacs, Noel Coward, and Sir Ralph Richardson, and was a commercial success for Columbia.  143 single-sided mimeographed pages, bound with a single clasp in blue wraps that are faded around the edges and the spine, and lightly curled on the fore-edge due to the wrapper being 2 1/2 inches wider than the manuscript.  The screenplay is housed in a custom leather and cloth clamshell box, with gold stamping on the spine.  A truly unique item!
