z.p., 1753. Amalia van Solms, (1602 - 1675), gravin van Braunfels, was de vrouw van prins Frederik Hendrik van Oranje. Amalia van Solms-Braunfels werd op 31 augustus 1602 geboren als dochter van Johan Albrecht I van Solms-Braunfels (de oudste zoon van Elisabeth van Nassau, een zuster van Willem van Oranje) en Agnes van Sayn-Wittgenstein. Haar jeugd bracht zij door op het Slot Braunfels aan de Lahn. Op 18-jarige leeftijd kwam zij als hofdame van Elizabeth Stuart, echtgenote van Frederik V van de Palts, de 'winterkoning' van Bohemen (en volle neef van de stadhouder), naar Den Haag. Hier leerde zij Frederik Hendrik kennen, wiens achternicht zij was. Zij trad op 4 april 1625 met hem in het huwelijk. Frederik Hendriks halfbroer Maurits had dit op zijn sterfbed aan hem gevraagd, anders zou hij niet van Maurits erven. 1751. Willem V, zichzelf noemend Willem Batavus (1748 – 1806), prins van Oranje, vorst van Oranje-Nassau, was de laatste erfstadhouder van de Republiek der Verenigde Nederlanden (1751-1795). Willem werd geboren in 's-Gravenhage als zoon van erfstadhouder Willem IV en Anna van Hannover. Op 4 oktober 1767 huwde de prins in Berlijn met Wilhelmina van Pruisen (1751-1820). Prins Willem V van Oranje-Nassau kreeg een degelijke opleiding. Hij toonde interesse in de wetenschap, had een eigen hof orkest, verzamelde graag en zelfs de kunst was hem niet vreemd. Midden in het historische centrum van Den Haag vindt u de prachtige Galerij Prins Willem V. Prins Willem V van Oranje-Nassau liet de zaal in 1774 bouwen om er zijn indrukwekkende schilderijenverzameling tentoon te stellen. z.p., 1608. Maurits, (1567- 1625), prins van Oranje en graaf van Nassau was stadhouder en legeraanvoerder van de Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden. Tot hij in 1618 de titel prins van Oranje erfde van zijn halfbroer Filips Willem, werd hij Maurits van Nassau genoemd. Maurits bracht zijn jeugd deels door op slot Dillenburg waar zijn oom Jan van Nassau hem opvoedde. Zijn vader Willem van Oranje kon dat niet op zich nemen omdat hij destijds in de Nederlanden was om de Opstand tegen Spanje te leiden. Na opleidingen in Heidelberg en Leiden werd Maurits op zijn achttiende verjaardag stadhouder van Holland en Zeeland. Hij bracht twee jaar door in het Staatse leger voordat hij het opperbevel kreeg. Maurits werd in 1590 stadhouder over de provincies Gelderland, Overijssel en Utrecht. Als kapitein-generaal voerde hij het leger aan tegen Spanje. Germany, s.n., 1780. Green morocco binding from the last quarter of the 18th century with rich gold embossing on the spine and both covers, silver embossing on the standing and inner edges, and gilt edges with some hallmarking. Floral forms and scrollwork on the covers are mosaically painted in red, blue, and silver bronze. Very fine, rich, and originally decorated German binding in excellent condition. The covers each with a wide lace border of floral elements and rocailles with cradle foot ornaments in the corners and a large ornamental centerpiece with scrollwork, flowers, and an octagonal field in the center imitating a cut and set gemstone. The majority of the forms formed by the gold embossing are painted. The inner lid is covered with three-coloured calico paper. Paper covered cardboard box measuring 28 x 14 x 17 cm. lined with marbled paper. Contents: four envelopes, two advertisement cards, two glass ink bottles, one blotter, a miniature terrestrial globe and a letter scale. The miniature globe is titled: ‘Sphere Terrestre’. Published at Paris by L.N. et K. Editeurs published early 20th century with all names printed in French. Consisting of 12 paper gores and 2 polar-caps, mounted on a black wooden stand, measuring 12 cm. in total, the globe with a diameter of 6 cm. (The paper covering the box has faded at some places and lacks a piece on the front of the box. Exteriors slightly rubbed, the gores of the globe are partly detached.)

Mid-19th century medical manuscript by the German Professor Johann Ludwig Choulant, 1791-1861. Choulant was a renowned professor at the Medizinisch-Chirurgischen Akademie of Dresden, he wrote several works among which medical textbooks and guides for medical practice. This manuscript contains his views on different diseases, results from his research and other studies. The work is entirely written in German, except for some Latin medical terminology, and is divided by the author in 3 parts. The first part consists of 4 chapters, divided in 433 paragraphs. July 5-98.' The album consists of 18 thick blue/grey paper covered board pages and 7 inserted grey pages. Most of the photographs are captioned by hand by the compiler. All board pages and some of the paper pages are loose, all are placed upside-down in the binding and are recently numbered with red pencil. An interesting piece of Americana which provides a personal and authentic view of the must-see sights of California in the late 19th century. Nürnberg, J.B. Homann, ca. 1718. Attractive Worldmap, published in the first atlas by Johann Baptist Homann (1664-1724). It shows an early double hemisphere, which swirls with activity. The world is shown in two hemispheres with a double hemisphere representation of the celestial world as construed in Classical astronomy above and below. Outside of these circles are many unusual things. At the top is a representation of the heavens with the stars, Sun and Moon, angels, and the disembodied heads that provide the winds on Earth. At the bottom are representations of unusual phenomena: a volcano erupting, an earthquake, waterspouts, a whirlpool, and a rainbow. The world map itself includes the trade winds and the routes of several important explorations: Magellan's, Tasman's, and William Dampier's, among others.
