New York: Crescent Books, 1981. 1990 Revised Edition. Hardcover. As New/as new. Very large, lavishly illustrated volume on military aircraft, a standard reference guide eye-catching enough to double as a coffee-table book. This is basically a new copy, with the jacket looking more casual, less starched and crisply folded than brand-new, after sitting on a quiet shelf for years, but not being worn to a notable degree. The price is suitably tamped down a bit. This is one of those books where kicked-around and cosmetically damaged copies are cheap and easily available, but nice ones are hard to find. One of the reasons, as is often the case, is the weight, and the ease at which 5 1/2 pounds of book can mess up a paper dust jacket. This one comes in a Mylar sleeve, fastened in with low-tack archival tape and fitted with corner guards -- all removable for the purist or the aviation buff who likes to live dangerously.

As-new and unread; binding deep green and gilt, in some kind of soft, high-friction pleather material, unmarked inside and out.
Price-clipped jacket (of vulnerable uncoated, textured rag paper) has apparently performed its job well: sunned spine, wearthrough on two folds (bottom right on each board), some scratches in the ink border on front extending 1/4" from right edge and bottom. Sunning in this case just makes the paper into an attractive textured rag paper with no dye on it, but only sharp black text. It still looks quite good spine-out in a bookcase. Equipped with a Brodart sleeve. 
Overall, on the infrequent but certain occasions on which Ninian Smart's first book is the one needed, here's a nice copy of that.

This is a one-volume American edition of Rackham's epic, if not excessive, 1910-1911 treatments of Wagner's The Rhinegold and the Valkyrie, and Siegfried and The Twilight of The Gods. If 48 full-page color plates of Rackham illustrating Wagner is enough for you – meaning, you don't require the full 64(!) from the pricy original editions and their pricy faithful reprints -- this is where to get it. There's also a two-volume edition of this if you want to spend a bit more. Book is tight, clean and straight with some water spots on the blue buckram binding, spine gilt still in effect, some shelf wear at bottom of the spine. The interior, including printed endpapers, is near mint with all plates present and in perfect shape save for a couple of spots like the one in the photo. The only other marking evident is an unobtrusive gift inscription (April 11, 1943) from someone called Snooks. Any attempt to track down Snooks seems unlikely to succeed.
