The Pellerin publishing house continued to issue these prints throughout the nineteenth century, initially as wood engravings and later as lithographs, in the main individually but sometimes in bound portfolios. Sydney : Ivan Dougherty Gallery, 2008. Quarto, illustrated wrappers (lightly marked), pp. 44, illustrated. 'Catalogue of the exhibition held 22 Aug.-27 Sept., 2008, at the Ivan Dougherty Gallery, Sydney.""Held at Anthony Horderns' Fine Art Galleries, Sydney, Ralph Balson's 1941 exhibition comprised twenty-one works that constituted Australia's first one-person exhibition of completely non-figurative painting ... The visual relationships between the paintings and their accumulative effect when displayed together were quailities orchestrated by Balson in this exhibition that are arguably crucial to developing an understanding of the work ... It is these qualities that we hope to explore in the present exhibition 'R-Balson-/41'. Our aim has been to locate all of the surviving works and exhibit them together for the first time since 1941. ...""--P. 3.' - Trove

Description:
Digital print on Epson archival matte paper, format Super A3 480 x 330 mm, scanned from the original print, signed and captioned in lower margin by the photographer, Geoffrey Hales. The Rolling Stones came to Melbourne in February, 1966 and played six shows in three days at the Palais Theatre, St. Kilda, supported by Max Merritt and the Meteors. This superb portrait of the Stones' charismatic genius Brian Jones (1942-69) reflects his enigmatic personality. It was taken in Jones' hotel room at the John Batman Motor Inn, St. Kilda, by local musician Geoffrey Hales. Jones loved this photograph and he purchased a copy of the print from Hales the following day. The image has apparently never been published. Melbourne-born Geoffrey Hales is a musician, composer, artist and photographer. An archive of digital prints of his photographs of the Australian Ballet taken during 1967-68 - a period many regard as a golden age of Australian ballet - are held in the collection of the Arts Centre Melbourne,…

Description:
Albumen print photograph, in very large format 210 x 267 mm, unmounted; verso with period inscription in pencil: 'Queens Torpid / 1879' and negative number '30,739'; the print has excellent clarity and tonal range, and apart from some fading around the edges is in fine condition. A significantly early - and quite possibly unique - Queen's College rowing team portrait photograph. The Oxford college second crews were first given their own rowing event in 1838. It was dubbed 'Torpids', the name chosen to reflect the fact that these boats were slower than the college Eights. Torpids became a series of bumping races for eight-oared rowing boats held on the Isis in Lent (Hilary) term. It is an event which is still held annually. The 1879 Torpids were won by Keble, with Queen's finishing in ninth place overall, out of the twenty competing colleges.

Description:
Melbourne : Thames & Hudson Australia Pty Ltd, 2022. Quarto, laminated illustrated boards, pp. 368, illustrated. New copy. The first major monograph on the boundary-pushing work of painter and sculptor, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran. Bursting with energy and life force, this visual cornucopia celebrates the work of Sri Lankan Australian sculptor and painter, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran, one of Australia’s most prominent and sought-after contemporary artists. His exuberant ceramic idols and installations gleam with vivid impossible-to-ignore immediacy, provoking and stimulating audiences as he explores the politics of sex, gender and religion. Continually playing with form, materiality and scale, Ramesh has set new benchmarks in the field of ceramics. This highly anticipated monograph catalogues over 500 pieces in his signature neo-expressionist style. The rough-edged playfulness of his animated beings will appeal to both established collectors and seekers of the unconventional.
