Richmond, Virginia: The Dietz Press, Incorporated , 1946. Hardover with dust jacket, 103 pp, plus 7 blank pages with "Notes" printed at the top of each. In good condition with slight wear to corners and edges, chips and tears to dust jacket edges and on spine along with rubbing and soiling to exterior of dust jacket. Light foxing and toning to pages. "Famous Recipes of Old Russia Adapted to American kitchens." Named for the silver tea urn pictured on both the front cover and dust jacket that was an heirloom of the well-traveled author, this collection of recipes was compiled during WWII while living in Virginia. Having lived in Russia, Shanghai, China, and the United States, Dmitrovna makes Russian cooking accessible for 1940's home cooks.

France, Circa 1910s. 11.5 x 8", quarter cloth binding with maroon boards, containing 153 numbered samples of French menus and dance cards. Wear along spine, front hinge broken. The first 123 samples are menus, ranging from simple cards with the word "Menu" on top to folding menus with elaborately decorated covers. These include a few menus with printed signatures of artists, including Harry Elliot, P.F. Grignon,and Jean Malet, the latter dated 1914. There are also several members by prominent French toy designer and lithographer Andre Helle. The final 30 samples in the album are for dance cards.

Local advertisements to verso of wrappers. A community cookbook “Affectionately dedicated to The American Child by the San Anselmo Main School Parent-Teacher Association.” Recipes are attributed to members by name. A chapter of “Children’s Nutritious Dishes” appears first, offering a glimpse into the world of feeding children in 1923 - Beans & Mutton Puree, Coddled Egg for Young Children, Milk Vegetable Soups, and a page of meal plan ideas for “Warm Home Lunches and Cold Home Lunches for School Children”. Sacramento: Press of Jos. E. Anderson, 1905. Stapled pictorial wrappers, 8 x 6.5", [32] pp. A collection of poems by an anonymous inmate at San Quentin prison in California. The poems touch upon the experience of being in prison, for instance a poem titled "Paroled" and one titled "Justice", which begins "I see between the bars dim shadows blending…." According to Andrea Brady's "Poetry and Bondage", this booklet represents an early example of a prison poetry anthology, and its prison-themed illustrations, which surround the text, are of special interest: "The poems are conventional in their verse forms and sentiments; they eulogise tender relationships, or meditate on the sunset as a prelude to regret. What is striking is the way that every poem is literally circumscribed by a carceral framework. Each page is surrounded with chains, walls and other material signifiers of the writer's penal enclosure" (121). Overall in very good condition with toning to wrappers and pages.
