Remarkably clean set. Most issues measure 11.5 x 16.5 inches although trim size varied throughout the life of the publication, 1970-1975. All issues have previous horizontal fold. No address labels. Very good to fine condition. Three bound sets in very good condition; bottom corners of the first set have light damage to the first 4 pages, not affecting any text. Last page of the third bound set is moderately torn and wrinkled--no content loss. 21 issues of the Salt Flat News, an offbeat, semi-serious avant-garde publication were produced between 1970 and 1975 on an irregular basis. [San Francisco Earthquake] A Bit of Forgotten History--The Navy at San Francisco, April 18-23, 1906 Manuscript document (8 x 10.5 inches) in duplicate consisting of 63 typed pages, recto only retained by two brads at top. First leaf loose as is back wrapper. No front wrapper. Archive also includes two photographs (6 x 8 and 7 x 9.5 inches) and one newspaper clipping from 1956. Typed manuscript in very good condition except for first detached leaf which is dog-eared with tears at top. Multiple erasure marks are evident which removed notes in pencil, plus there are several corrections in pen. Folded newspaper is worn and fragile at folds. Photos are in very good condition. Warren Hinckle was a San Francisco journalist who had a column in the Examiner. He had written a series of articles critical of the SF police and then mayor Dianne Feinstein. A few days after Hinckle penned an article about the arrest of porn star Marilyn Chambers during constant raids on the Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Street Theater, he was arrested for walking his basset hound, Bentley, without a leash. A humorous critique of excessive police force. Hinckle is dragged off by three big cops. He cuts an amusing character with his eye patch and long hair. Several have light flaking to emulsion at edges. Many exhibit a light silvering halo which gives scans a bluish tint. Composition, toning and exposure generally strong. No information written on negative; all have newer small white labels with four-digit numbers. All negatives have been scanned and digitally converted into positives. Buyer will receive glass plate negatives. Very Good Condition. Interesting collection of photographs documenting damage from the San Francisco earthquake. Attributed to noted San Francisco and Yosemite photographer by auction house via their consignor. Negative box includes holograph note in pencil, "G Fisk" (sic). George Fiske (1835-1918) is best associated with his landscape photography of Yosemite National Park. 1864. [Scam] "Grand Chance for a Fortune!" Broadside--London, New Jersey November 28, 1864 Broadside, printed on very lightweight paper measures 21 x 8.5 inches. Verso is blank but shows extensive ink bleed from recto. Several small chips and tears, especially at previous folds. No printers slug. Good Condition. Classic mid-19th century lottery scam, especially prevalent in the 1860's. Perpetrators would mail solicitations to sell lottery tickets using fictitious, yet legitimate sounding organizations, to sell tickets to win a "Fortune". In this case, the managers (Browne, Sherman & Co.) of the "Cosmopolitan Art Union Association" of London, New Jersey announce a public drawing on Monday November 28, 1864. Not only is the "Cosmopolitan Art Union Association" made up, but there is also no such town of London New Jersey. Unusually large and uncommon photographic viewbook for Colorado and Denver published in 1905. 48 unnumbered pages with about 100 printed photographic images in various ink shades. Filled with scenic views, noted buildings and churches, and cityscapes of Denver and Colorado. Only photographer credited is Seth Hassell for the cover image. None found in commerce and only 6 copies in various institutions as of January 2024.

Date stamp is August 28, 1934. White wraps and text block have a vertical crease down the center. Front wrap has a rule on front cover measuring 1 inch and incorporating three dots.
