Large octavo, pictorial wrappers, [32] pp. A promotional cookbook by a Richmond based manufacturer of flavor extracts, including Sauer's Old Virginia Fruitti-Punch Extract and O-Rum-O, "The Extract With The Rum Flavor." The booklet contains recipes for savories and desserts that make use of the company's products, as well as advertisements for the extracts, and three pages describing proper summer and winter diets for children. Foxing and toning to wrappers, marginal chipping to wrappers and fore edge, bit of damp staining.

Small pamphlet measuring 6 x 3.5", orange wrappers, 117, [7] pp. A scarce book on movies with sound by a New York based textbook writer who also wrote guides on motion picture operation and projection. The first part of this book prints a history of talking movies from the year 1900 through WWI, and the second part describes the various talking picture technologies in use in cinemas around the country. In very good condition with creasing to text.

Greensboro, North Carolina: Privately Printed for the Alumnae Association of North Carolina College for Women, Greensboro, 1924. Octavo, beige cloth, 164 pp. According to the title page, this cookbook was “the result of the combined effort of the alumnae of the North Carolina College for Women," which is today UNC Greensboro. The book contains a wide variety of recipes, including many with the prefix "My Husband's Favorite," i.e. "My Husband's Favorite Corn Bread." There are also recipes for fromage inconnu, Brazilian cocoanut pudding, and "Black Mammy's Hush Puppy." The name of the contributor is printed below each recipe, in some instances together with the woman's profession (one was an attorney) or year of graduation from the college. New York: United Negro College Fund, 1947. Octavo, stapled wrappers, [16] pp, photographic illustrations throughout. A booklet published to raise funds for the United Negro College Fund, highlighting six successful African American college graduates in order to "give a hint of the accomplishments of men and women who come out of the thirty-three institutions affiliated with the United Negro College Fund." To this end, the booklet prints illustrated biographies of Cleo W. Blackburn, Rev. Marian Andrew Sanders, Sanford H. Lee, Singleton C. Anderson, Alfred Detroy Brooks, and L. Elizabeth Courtney, M.D. The booklet ends with a fundraising appeal that underscored the need for more African American professionals: "There is one white teacher to 122 pupils...only one Negro teacher to 201 pupils...A great many more social workers, clergymen, engineers, and agricultural experts are needed." Foxing and toning to pages and covers, short closed tear to margin of a couple of leaves.

Revised Edition. 7.75 x 5.25", green cloth with gilt lettering, 267 pp. Revised edition, first published in 1912 and written by a Lebanon, Tennessee woman. Includes a recipe for sangaree, a fruit drink and precursor to sangria, as well as a recipe for grape sangaree. There are also recipes for chili con carne, Mexican macaroni, curry chicken, and more. Wear and staining to covers, fraying to corners and spine ends, staining and spattering to pages.

New Orleans, Louisiana, 1914. A rare community cookbook, published to raise funds for the construction of a new church in New Orleans. Includes four gumbo recipes, as well as recipes for crawfish bisque, shrimp jambalaya, cubion (a Cajun fish stew), daube, baked plantain, Turkish salad, Virginia blackberry cordial (an alcoholic drink), and more. Some of the recipe contributors are named, and the book contains blank pages throughout for memoranda as well as many pages printing advertisements for local businesses. Not found in OCLC. Chipping to wrappers at corners, mild toning and foxing to pages, damp staining to area of fore edge, last few leaves with damp staining, an attractive copy overall.

A moral story calling for social unity during World War I, written by a pastor and rotary club member from Council Bluffs, Iowa, with a foreward by the international president of the Rotary Club. This copy with a lengthy inscription to front endpaper that reads in part "I gave a copy of this little book to the Captain of Unit 330 of the Ill. Vol Corps...may it help the boys guard the country with honor and keep the home fires burning." Very good with soiling and fading to edges of covers, bit of foxing to pages, dust jacket toned and soiled, bit chipped at corners.

Nashville, Tennessee: James T. Camp, Printer, 1907. Second Edition. 9 x 6.25", brown decorative wrappers, 128 pp plus [4] pages of local advertisements. A rare cookbook published for the first Tennessee State Fair, consisting of recipes "tested and donated by a limited but distinctive number of Nashville housewives for the benefit of the Tennessee State Fair," according to the title page. This second edition is expanded from the first, published a year earlier, and contains 128 pages as opposed to 74. Recipes are each attributed and include typical southern fare--South Carolina chicken, southern gumbo, pimento relish, pralines, and "President Jackson's favorite dish"--as well as two recipes for wine and a recipe for alcoholic egg nog. The book concludes with a series of descriptions of prominent local events, together with their menus, including a breakfast for Mrs. McKinley, a Creole luncheon, and a Japanese dinner.
