Linksonderin gesigneerd met een niet duidelijk leesbare naam. Het schilderij is ingelijst in een rijkelijk bewerkte goudkleurige lijst uit de tijd. Zowel het schilderij als de lijst zijn in goede staat. De totale afmeting inclusief lijst is 115 x 96 cm., het schilderij zelf is 90 x 71 cm.

An extremely rare pair of miniature terrestrial and celestial globes, each with 12 hand-coloured engraved paper gores, over a paper mâché and plaster sphere, each globe with paper mâché meridian ring, mounted on horizon rings with a handwritten number VIII and III on each globe. The horizon rings supported by four quadrants with text ""Zu finden in Nürnberg / wohnhaft unter der Vesten / bey denen Homaenischen Erben/ dem Prediger Klöster gegenüber"", both globes on a turned single wooden black stand. Diameter 64 mm (2.5 inches), height 185 mm. RARE. Johann Baptist Homann (1664–1724), was a German geographer and cartographer. He founded a publishing business in Nürnberg in 1702, and published his first atlas in 1707, becoming a member of the Academy of Sciences in Berlin in the same year. London, Malby & Son, 1889. Miniature terrestrial globe made up of 12 hand-coloured engraved gores laid over a plaster sphere, with axis pins and brass meridian circle. Diameter 5 cm (2 inches), height 11 cm, in a mahogany stand. Contemporary hand-coloured, the countries in different colours and the seas in a green shade, it has been cleaned and varnished. Some dark spots at both axel pins. Malby & Co. (fl.1843-1860) was a family firm of 19th-century globe-makers in London, founded in the 1840s by Thomas Malby who took over the business of John Addison & Co. The Malby company's title was ""Globe Manufacturers and Publishers to the Society For The Diffusion Of Useful Knowledge"", which was mentioned on each of their cartouches. Amsterdam, Gerard and Leonard Valk, 1750/1700. A pair of rare Valk table globes published by Gerard and Leonard Valk in Amsterdam in 1700 and 1750. The Dutch globe makers Gerard Valk (1652-1726) and his son Leonard Valk (1675-1746) were the only significant publishers of globes in the Netherlands in the eighteenth century. The design of their globes was completely new and incorporated the latest geographical and astronomical discoveries and are hence the most accurate globes for that time. Valk completed his present 15-inch. (39 cm) globes in 1707 and the copper plates went through several states over the years. The terrestrial globe is here in what Van der Krogt calls state 3 (with the date changed to 1750 by pasting a slip over the ""45"" of the ""1745"" in state 2). Leonard Valk made the most important revision to the 1707 topographic image sometime between 1730 and 1745 when he revised the Caspian Sea and the Aral Sea based on a new mapping. Edward Pococke 1604-1691, was an English Orientalist and biblical scholar. He made himself master of Arabic, which he not only read but spoke fluently, studied Hebrew, Samaritan, Syriac, and Ethiopic, and associated of friendly terms with learned Muslims and Jews who helped him in collecting manuscripts. Pococke's observation of eastern manners and natural history served him in good stead as a commentator on the Old Testament (cf. his famous correction of 'wailing like the dragons' in Micah 1, into 'howling like the jackals') As a pastor he was devoted and indefatigable. The theological works of Pococke were collected in two volumes, and published in 1740 with a curious account of his life and writings by Leonard Twells.)
