This copy is free from previous owner's ink and is, overall, in very good (or better) condition. One review at the time of publication praised the essence of the plot but felt the latter half of the novel moved too slowly. A later review considered that this novel showed "Definite signs of decline" and felt the author was not entirely comfortable with the setting she described in the novel.

Description:
London: Covent Garden Press, (1973). First edition, first printing. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper, designed by Peter Juerges, is in admirable condition with only slight edgewear and handling marks to note. There is, however, one closed tear to the rear panel. It has not been price clipped. The boards are sharp in the publisher's cloth, with the black embossed lettering in the centre. There is an area of ghosting, ironically from the presence of the archival wrap. The author's signature is flat signed to the front free-endpaper in blue ink. The internals and text blocks are clean. This is number 10 of 600 printed. This is a near fine copy.
Colin Wilson assesses J. R. R. Tolkien as a writer and a thinker.
