Worcester (England): T. Eaton, 1830. 39 pp. Bound in modern marbled paper covered boards. In 1806 a group of six farmers conspired to have murdered the hated Rev. Paker, with whom they quarreled over tithes. They hired Richard Hemming, who dispatched Parker in his garden with a gun shot and then fled. Hemming, now sought by police, threatened to inform on those who hired him. He hid at the farm of Thomas Clewes, one of the conspirators, who became convinced that he should be silenced. His body was buried in Clewes' barn. Twenty-four years passed, during which time all the conspirators prospered except for Clewes, who lost his farm and became a hopeless drunkard. Workmen leveling the barn found Hemming's skeleton. Clewes confessed and implicated the surviving conspirators, who were now pillars of society. Scarce with two later editions for sale online and one later edition in auction records.

Hillacre, 1917. 41 pp. Uncut. Dust jacket lightly worn and faded. Waldo Pierce's copy with his bookplate and a note signed "Waldo" laid into the front. Reed was an active American Communist who died in Russia in 1920.

New York: A.S. Barnes and Company, 1950. 180 pp. Autographed in pencil. Fair condition. Boards slightly warped, worn and rubbed. This book is a part of the "Most Valuable Player Series" named after the award Williams received while playing for the Boston Red Sox of the American League in 1949. Williams is considered one of the greatest baseball players of any generation and is famously known for interrupting his hall of fame career to serve in the U.S. Navy and Marines during World War II. This copy features Ted Williams signature on the inside page. A great piece of baseball and U.S. history.

New York, 1918. Theodore Roosevelt, typed letter signed, January 24, 1918. Metropolitan letterhead, Office of Theodore Roosevelt, to E.T. Marsh, Rochester, NY. Roosevelt thanks Marsh for his nice letter, "pressed for time though I am, I must send you this line of thanks and acknowledgement." Included is a photo of Theodore Roosevelt. Clear signature.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1962. Very good condition. A first edition of this classic novel of the fight for Guadalcanal.

Washington: Published by the Senate, 1947. 403 pages. Tears on paper to the wraps. The report attacks various communist party organizations and the communist influence in labor, entertainment and education. There is even a section on the communists distributing book on human reproduction and sex to schools.

Topeka: Topeka Board of Trade, 1868. [3] pp. Single folded sheet. Fourth page blank but used as notepaper of accounts related to the costs and income of a school that was likely the college of St. Bethany. This was a female college, and accounts mention a Mrs. R.S. Baldwin who was teacher of natural history, mathematics and a house mother. In good condition with spotting. The piece e numerates various aspects of business and in the city of 4,000 and mentions the Union Pacific railroad. The Atchinson, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad was soon to reach the city.

Philadelphia: P.S. Duval, 1853. 37" x 30". Folded and paper lightly tanned. The first plan for the town was done in 1848 and lots were offered for sale. The town was laid out again in 1853 and by then a few buildings had been constructed and the map we offer here was printed. Lots were numbered and sold and a large coal mining town was constructed.

1901. [22] pages of photographs and watercolors of a trip to Italy in 1901. The 11 illustrations show some talent. Good condition with the interior hinge cracked. No owner identification.

Saco: William Noyes & Co, 1874. 180, 25, 69, 40, 65 pp. Ex-library with partial library label on the inside front cover and a raised blind stamp on the title page. Much of the spine is lacking. Wagner rowed out to Smuttynose which is part of the Isles of Shoals off Portsmouth N.H. and killed two women with an axe thinking there was $600 hidden on the island. A third woman survived. He was convicted and executed, and this is a transcript of the trial. This is an infamous Maine murder that still is recounted in articles, books and through other media. The last copy at auction was in 2021 and no copies currently online. McDade, 1032.

In original wraps with moderate staining throughout One of many pamphlets and books generated by this famous Cambridge Massachusetts murder which took place on the Harvard University campus Webster owed Parkman money and was murder during an argument McDade 1068 56 pp pp.

London: Printed by A. Macpherson for J. Lee, 1802. 22, 4 pp. The piece lacks wraps but includes the unusual plate of British Soldier Benjamin Armstrong flogged by an African. Joseph Wall (1737- 1802) was born in Ireland and described in several accounts as a volatile but good soldier serving in Cuba, India, and West Africa. Jailed in West Africa for cruelty, he traveled back to Ireland and England when released-later convicted of coercing a woman to marry him and killing an associate. Offered Lieutenant-governorship of Goree, he had a man flogged to death on his voyage to his new position. Once in his new position, Wall ordered seven soldiers flogged for questioning why they received only partial pay. Three died. When he returned to England, he feared arrest and moved to France and Italy for several years but returned to England, was arrested, faced trial, and was convicted and hung.

Two painted original illustrations by Wallis Hall Sturtevant for Louise Lamprey's book Days of the Builders published by Stokes in 1926 The first illustration is of the construction of the Panama Canal and is titled "Warren took Dick to see the steam-shovels at work" and the other is a World War I theme titled "That's right: the street is full of Boches" Both images are about 13" x 10" and are in 23" x 19" frames Lamprey was a Maine author while Sturtevant was a Massachusetts artist born in 1897.
