Presumably a salesman's sample case, containing 78 dyed samples in the lid of the box and 78 in the base, each group covered by an overlaid sheet of heavy board cut away in circles to expose each sample. Tipped on to the bottom group is a folding letterpress 'key' sheet for the samples
