1818. Colour-printed stipple engraving. 210mm by 130mm (sheet). From Francois Pierre Chaumeton's 'Flore Medicale' which portrayed a variety of flowers, trees and herbs which could be used for treating illnesses. The engravings were produced during the great period of French colour printing using the stipple-engraving process pioneered by the great botanical artist Pierre-Jospeh Redoute. The artist is the celebrated Pierre Jean Francois Turpin (1775-1840), pupil of Redoute. He is considered one of the greatest floral and botanical illustrators during the Napoleonic Era and afterwards.

From 1844-1848 he lived and worked in Tasmania. A number of his works were used for engravings in Edwin Carton Booth's 'Australia'. From 'Australia' by Edwin Carton Booth. Vanikoro - Ou La Perouse fit naufrage en 1788 : et ou le Capitaine Dumont-Durville lui fit elever un mausolee, 1828' Published by Lemercier, Paris.Depicts the cenotaphe erected at Vanikoro, in Maneva_ Bay, by the Dumont d'Urville expedition in 1828.Thin margin on right hand side.

1880. Chromolithograph. 380mm by 260mm (sheet). Vanity Fair medical portrait of Mr Erasmus Wilson MRCS. He was a specialist in the diseases of the skin. In 1869 he founded the chair and museum of dermatology in the Royal College of Surgeons, of which he was chosen president in 1881, In 1878 he earned the thanks of the nation by defraying the expense of bringing Cleopatra's Needle from Alexandria to London, where it was erected on the Thames Embankment. The British Government had not thought it worth the expense of transportation. He was knighted by Queen Victoria in 1881.Accompanied by a photocopy of the descriptive text.

He was known as the Duke of Edinburgh from 1866 until he succeeded his paternal uncle Ernest II as the reigning Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in the German Empire.In 1867 as Captain of HMS Galatea he visited Australia where an assasination attempt was made on his life by Henry James O'Farrell.In 1873 Ward (1851 - 1922) was recruited by the editor of Vanity Fair to replace Carlo Pellegrini (Ape).

Phil' Vanity Fair portrait of Phil May who was an English caricaturist who came to Sydney, Australia 1886-1889 and was attached to The Sydney Bulletin, or The Bulletin as it was better known, for which many of his best drawings were made. He produced about 800 drawings for The Bulletin.
