Venice: Aldine Press (Aldus), 1534. 3rd. Fine+. An early Aldine edition providing of this classical work by Valerius Maximus including an index of the all things and people mentioned. Later fine binding of green leather with a gilded Aldine publisher's mark on front and back covers, four raised bands on spine, and gilded lettering on spine. Fine turn-ins with gilded designs. All fore edges fully gilded. Ex Libris from Charles Edmund Merrill, Jr. inside front cover. Publisher's information in the back reads: Venetiis in Aedibus Haeredum Aldi, et Andreae Soceri, mense Martio, M. D. XXXIII. Pages are all very clean with only the slightest toning. There are some marginal notes, doodles, and drwaings. Valerius Maximus was one of the most copied Roman writings during the Middle Ages with some manuscripts surviving. Madrid: Miguel Escribano, 1785. First Thus. Very Good. Translated from French to Spanish by Don Francisco Mariano Nipho - an early journalist and founder of many of Spain's first newspapers. The work discusses the role of the state in commerce, economy, obligations to citizens, taxes, and other social topics. An early example of social thought. Bound in original full vellum over boards with faded lettering on the spine. Toning to the vellum and the numbers 2.314 on the front in black ink. Solid binding with a slight lean. Postage-like stamp on interior front board and small tears to the first two blanks. The interior is barely toned and clean and clear throughout.  Pages: (12) 295     Dimensions: 6 x 4¼ x ¾ .

Santiago: Nascimento, 1962. First Edition. Very Good. First edition, first state of this fourth poetry collection from influential Chilean poet, Nicanor Parra, and representing a return to his anti-poetry form. Signed by the author on the title page. In a custom black and red clamshell case. Bound in original paper wrappers with interior folds attached and present. Modern repairs reinfocing the wrappers and the head and tail of the spine with japanese paper. Toning to the covers and minor spotting to the top edge. The interior is clean and clear throughout with no other markings or inscriptions aside from the author's signature.  Pages: 109     Dimensions: 7¾ x 5¾ x ¾  .

In original/contemporary 1/2 leather spine over marbled boards. Rubbing, creasing, and chipping to covers and marbled paper. Edges spotted by publisher. First published in 1871 by Strahan & Company Limited, the present edition is from a subsequent printing (1870's-1880) edition printed by Strahan & Company Limited. Green cloth over boards with debossed borders on front and back. Gilded lettering and rules on spine. Some rubbing to edges, bumped corners, and rubbing along rims of spine. Long edge rought cut. Yellow endpapers. The interior is lightly toned with minimal spotting at the very edges of a few pages - otherwise internally clean and clear. Palermo: Giuseppe Gramignani, 1751. 1st Edition. Fair+. Original full vellum binding. Binding is worn, cracked, and has several scratches. Frontispiece engrraving of F. Girolamo da Corlione present but detached and trimmed. Old stamp to title page, with some rounding and loss of paper, all text legible. Pages toned and with some staining, aside from title page, all pages whole and all text is clear and legible. Text in Italian.  Pages: (18) 377 Dimensions: 8⅞ x 6¾ x 1⅝.

Amsterdamo (Amsterdam): Georgio Gallet, 1699. 1st or Early. Very Good+. Volumes 2-3 of 3; in Italian. In early, vellum hard boards with leather labels on spine with gilded lettering. Original or early cloth ribbon bookmarks attached, though weakly. Bindings are holding tightly with some discoloration to vellum. Volume 2 has three full-page engravings (perhaps missing one, but unclear); Volume 3 has five full-page engravings. Bookplate of former owner on pastedowns. Generally toned with some ageing, but all text is easily legible. This edition was printed a few years prior to the author's death. Princeton: Princeton University Press, 1991. 1st. Fine. First editions, each with a full number line on the copyright page. In original dust jackets in mylar; both jackets have a crease on the front turn in, volume one is clipped, volume two is unclipped. Blue cloth over boards; volume one has a gilded frame with a black panel and gilded lettering inside on spine, volume two has a gilded frame with a brown panel and gilded lettering inside on spine. Decorative endpapers. Internally, both books are clean, clear, crisp, and with unbroken spines.
