Pictorial endpapers, unpaginated with 12 tipped in coloured plates each with captioned tissue guards. The book comes in its original unclipped dust jacket priced at 15/- net. A lovely copy, with just a hint of toning to small areas of the spine matching loss to the jacket. Internally clean, without name, inscription or bookplate. All the plates and there captioned tissue-guards are in excellent condition and there are one or two very light handling marks only. The dust jacket, which is now protected in a removable, clear cover (not shown), is dust stained with rubbing to the edges. It has losses to the spine of 2cm at the head, 1.5cm in the middle and a smaller 3mm chip at the foot. There is minor loss to the corners and a closed tear of 4cm on the top edge of the front panel. Volume II is the Fourth Edition published in 1888 at Catherine Street, The Strand. 12.3 x 19cm brown decorative paper covered boards, all rebacked with original spines laid down. Yellow coated endpapers; Volume I vii[i] 429[1]pp, Volume II 360pp; Volume III 387[1] The delicate bindings are in a much better state than is usually found with most of the spines having been preserved. There is some rubbing to the edges and the War and Peace title on the spines is very faded but the titles of each individual volume on the front covers is clear and bright. The binding is firm. Internally, there is a gift inscription on the front free endpaper of each volume,' R. G. Bury from B. L. May 1898'. French fold pages 25[2]pp with 5 illusrations including a full page map of the tour, with 10 samples tipped in. The books is contained within a brown card folder with Japanese paper closure. A lovely copy. The book itself has been well protected by the card cover and is in near fine condition. The cover. The brown folder is a little creased at the spine tips and has additional punch holes on the front flap. All in all a lovely record of a tour Richardson made of the workshops of 12 paper makers and a couple of related crafts people on the islands of Honshu and Shikoku. Stanley Paul & Co., 1914. 1st Edition. Hardcover. VG-. 12.5 x 19.3cm green cloth with blind stamped title to the front and gilt stamped titles to the spine, uncut edges 327pp +(1)+32pp catalogue. The boards are a little worn with patchy fading. There is a 1.5cm split in the cloth at the foot of the spine and there are patches of loss cloth measuring 2mm and 4mm to the bottom of the front board and one of 7mm to the rear board. The cloth on the front shoulder is worn through in places. The book has a very slight lean, although the binding is firm. Internally the book has a previous owner's initials to the title page but otherwise is generally very clean. Kenealy was a nurse, motor and balloon enthusiast, journalist and novelist. This is a scarce work, dealing with inter-racial marriage, by an unusual, sensationalist writer who appeared to attract a surprising amount of controversy. The boards have a little light marking with some shelf-wear along the bottom edge. Internally clean, without name, inscription or bookplate. Many of the pages have remained unopened. There limitation page at the rear is unnumbered and therefore out of sequence. The flimsy wartime dust jacket, now protected in a removable clear cover (not shown in our images), is in very good condition considering its delicate nature, a little toned with a little chipping to the spine tips and top corners and a few short closed tears along the top edge ranging from 0.2 - 1.5 cm. There is some loss of shine to the boards (likely from handling), a partial cup ring is visible at a certain angle in the light and a little pushing and rubbing to the corners. There is an ownership name and date in ink to the front free endpaper and a later name and date in pencil on the same page.
