Description:
[Original artwork], [c.1920]. Original pencil and watercolour depicting a young woman standing before a town within a stylised landscape. Signed "John Austen" to the foot. The image measuring 17 x 22cm. Framed and glazed (32.5 x 39.5cm in total). The watercolour is in very good condition, remaining clean and bright, with just a slight ripple to the paper. There are a few small scratches to the edges of the frame, otherwise this is also in very good order. A delicate watercolour by the celebrated British artist and illustrator John Austen (1886-1948) in his distinctive Art Deco style. The present watercolour was likely produced as an illustration for a book, although we have not yet managed to identify which publication. A lovely example of Austen's work.
