The edges are stained red, marbled endpapers, engraved frontispiece with tissue guard. The appendix has two essays on blank verse. There is a previous owner's engraved bookplate and a previous owner's inscription dated 1882. The marbled boards are rubbed and a bit worn on the edges. Locale: Italy. Dark green cloth with beveled edges, each volume with elaborate illustrations in gilt and silver on the cover and spine. All edges gilt, color plate, photographs, illustrations, folding color map, index. Some wear at the edges and corners, and the map repaired with archival tissue.
