About This Item

London: George G. Harrap & Co, 1939. Paperback. Near Fine/near fine. RACKHAM Arthur . Clean Paperback. 37 p. 23 cm. Colour frontispiece. 18 small line drawings. Pictorial printed paper covers. Patterned endpapers. Some foxing on end cover but generally in excellent overall condition given age."Goblin Market" is a popular narrative poem that was included in Rossetti's first commercially published collection of poetry, Goblin Market and Other Poems (1862). The poem tells the story of two sisters, Laura and Lizzie, who encounter a group of goblin merchants while they collect water at a stream near their home. Christina Georgina Rossetti was part of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, along with her brothers Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William M. Rossetti. She served as a model for them, but also shared in that artistic community, with written contributions to The Germ, a Pre-Raphaelite journal. This poem Goblin Market helped establish her reputation, mainly as a writer for children. Further scans, images etc. available on request.
