Inscribed (twice) on half title page and opposite copyright page by Grant Achatz. Numerous black & white and color photographs. "What's Next?" is indeed the question.
Chef Grant Achatz was named one of the best new chefs in America by Food & Wine (2002), received the James Beard Foundation Rising Star Chef of the Year award (2003) and together with Nick Kokonas co-founded Alinea in 2005. Alinea was named the Best Restaurant in America by Gourmet magazine. At his last count Chef Grant Achatz holds three Michelin stars for Alinea and one for his ever-changing themed restaurant Next. In 2007 Chef Achatz was diagnosed with stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma of the mouth. Aggressive chemotherapy and radiation therapy administered at the University of Chicago Medical Center was successful in driving his cancer into full remission. While the treatment(s) removed the need for radical surgery, they came at a cost; loss of his sense of taste. life, on the line will certainly help explain "What's Next?" for Chef Achatz.
