About This Item
London: Macmillan and Co., Limited, 1906. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 6". None. A smart edition of this work exploring the natural history of Selborne by Reverend Gilbert White. From the Library of English Classics. A compilation of letters detailing the natural history of the area around White's family home at the vicarage of Selborne in Hampshire. The letters are intended for Thomas Pennant, a leading British zoologist of the day, and Daines Barrington, an English barrister and Fellow of the Royal Society. Written by Gilbert White, a pioneering English naturalist, ecologist, and ornithologist. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting, particularly to the first and last few pages. Minor age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Very Good
