No other issues: tight, complete (with map) and in very good shape for such an old book.Major-General Ashmore was the leading figure in the air defence of the United Kingdom, founding what would eventually become the Royal Observer Corps. He was appointed to devise improved systems of detection, communication and control. A system to be called the Metropolitan Observation Service was created which covered the London area and was known as the London Air Defence Area.On 29 October 1925 the Observer Corps came into official existence. Major-General Ashmore was regarded as the first commander of the Observer Corps in all but name during 1925 and he is deemed to be the Corps' founder. First Edition, First Printing with the words "First Published 1950" printed on the copyright page. The original dustjacket has very minor wear to the head and base of the spine and corners. This First Issue dust jacket has a light "coffee cup" stain towards the 9s.6d. net printed price on the uncut bottom front flap. The printer appears to have had some difficulty with the name Cantwell. Also of importance: note the DJ has a spelling error "deeps" for "depths" in the final sentence of the 2nd. para. The book, 254 pp., 8vo., is in excellent condition. The binding is tight, with no cocking or leaning and the boards are crisp with only minor wear. A great copy of this TRUE FIRST EDITION that precedes the American edition by 3 days. Ex libris Stanislas Joly bookplate inside front cover.

When Paul Tibbets signed this, he told the manual's owner, he had not seen one in a very long time. He also signed it on August 6, 1945, Pilot though several decades after his ordering the drop of the first atom bomb. "This manual has been prepared in permanent binding rather than loose leaf form to make it more compact, easier to handle and of a size to be carried in the pocket." Page 350 shows the order to destroy the bomb site with the service revolver as well as all the plane's records to prevent it from falling into enemy hands.
