About This Item
Walter J. Black Editions. Compete set of the original 75 volumes in collectible quality with 73 being reprints of Grey's original Harper & Brothers editions coupled with a Biography and The Camp Robber; a "True First" to the Walter Black series making for 75 volumes in the series.
Clean, tight and without writing in any volume, each in Very Good, very good plus condition. Each bound in red and tan cloth with blue topstain ranging from faded to brilliant. Two volumes come with rice paper as examples of how volumes were originally sold.
Zane Grey (1872-1939), in addition to being an author was also a dentist and played baseball for the University of Pennsylvania (1895). Also included is a check for $100 (adjust for inflation, $1,800) made out to Sid Boerstler, Grey's long-time captain of the sailing ship Marechal Foch (retrofitted and renamed by Grey as Fisherman) from 1928. This vessel was used for sport fishing expeditions to South America, Tahiti and New Zealand. Note, various statements are shown on the copyright page (see photo) of many volumes and Reef Girl actually has a number line ending in 1 making it the first printing.
As examples of alternate copyright pages, 17 additional volumes with "inappropriate" (Book Club) copyright pages are also included. A discount ($50) is possible if those editons are not wanted. Shown are front board, fore-edge (blue) topstain and fore-edge of the last 8 books in the series as they contain the substantially rarer and more valuable editons. Due to weight, additonal postage will be required. 5.25x7.5 in.
