This is perhaps the definitive, if not most complete retrospective analysis between two covers of Chagall's work written by the artist's son-in-law, and a well-known art historian in his own right.

Rare hardcover 1st edition. Cover has some wear and water marks on the edge. Some shelf wear & corners bumped. Some light tanning. Nice, tight binding. Good for its age. Fictional story of Wannaseska, the Cherokee prophet set during the time the State of Georgia (white settlers) were about to confiscate Cherokee Lands in N. Georgia. The prophet is first hand eye witness and victim to the outrages. Story ends with the Trail, of Tears when the Cherokees agreed to move to Indian Territory in Oklahoma.

Good - full calf binding, gilt decoration to the spine, speckled edges of the text block with head burnished. Corners bumped, wear to the extremities, calf thinning at the hinge of the boards, bookplate of William Ord. Edinburgh on inside of front paste down (bookplate possible of William Ord of Whitfield, MP for Morpeth & Newcastle-upon-Tyne), light tanning throughout otherwise contents clean, bright and tight. As this item weighs over 1kg when packed additional postage will be required for delivery outside of the United Kingdom.

1847, first printing, 54 page pamphlet in fair to good condition. Wraps are nearly off, front is stained, title page heavily foxed with pencil notations of prior book seller. Interior is otherwise pretty good, minor to moderate foxing, no other writing or vandalism. Complete as issued. Scarce first printing of this satire on tobacco use. People have suggested for a long time that tobacco has ill effects on the health of users and those around them - here is a 19th century example of that opinion. Identification of the author is difficult - I have listed two common suggestions. I am pretty sure we can rule out Solomon Spittle. Item is rare: WordCat locates two copies of this printing (#237747794); none from this date are for sale. Please see scans of the item you will receive. Included in 'Medical' history as this pamphlet does more than hint at the health problems of tobacco users.

Includes index. Stamped at lower edge of title page: "Withdrawn from P.C.P. & S. Library" [Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science]. In Very Good- Condition: modern binding clean and bright; frontispiece, title page, and several following leaves have old stain; archival repair of loss in lower part of title page (no loss of printing); some foxing on folded plates; otherwise, clean and tight.

Circa 1875 edition of popular captivity narrative. Nelson & Phillips, New York. Spencer was 11 when captured in 1792. Brown blindstamped cloth, gilt title on spine. Condition is Very Good: Recased using original boards sometime in last 40 years. Modern endpapers. No interior writing, occasional foxing, some smudges, old corner folds. Small hole pp.13/14 affecting a few letters. Binding is sound. 160 pages with 4 plates and 4 engravings embedded in text all included in pagination. Contents bound at end as usual with this book. The plates and engravings are same topics and locations as the 1842 edition but are by a different engraver. True first edition is 1835 in either New York or Pennsylvania. Possibly the earliest work by the noted literary critic and Shakespearean authority; Was awarded The Chancellor's prize while Chambers was still a student at Oxford. Forgeries provides a scholarly, yet lively and interesting look at the forgery of books, documents and manuscripts throughout history. 8½ x 5½". 37. Original printed tan wrappers with side stitched thread binding. 40 pp. Wraps soiled, one inch closed tear and "C" inked to front wrap. Pages toned with neat penciled annotations of a critical and academic tone throughout. Quite scarce first printing in good or better condition, none in orig. binding found in commerce at this time. OCLC suggests this edition held in European libraries, but none in North America.

Fourteen volumes in original hardcovers. Series 1: volumes 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26. 1896-1914. Generally condition runs from Good to Very Good plus. These are heavy volumes that are prone to binding failures when handled improperly. Some of these volumes are sound, some strengthened with new endpapers, some where binding is starting. None have failed bindings. The earlier volumes show more general wear to the boards than later volumes. I have prepared a more complete condition report on each volume so feel free to inquire.
