Boulevard Nights (Original screenplay for the 1979 film)

Danny De La Paz, in his first screen appearance, portrays Chuco, a Chicano low-rider and member of the 11th Street gang, whose older brother Raymond, played by Richard Yniguez, is a former gang member trying to find a way to get Chuco out, before tensions rise to a full-on gang war between the 11th Street gang and rival gang Varrio Grande Vista (V.G.V.).

Shot entirely on location in the Mexican American community of East Los Angeles, "Boulevard Nights" employed the local Chicano community both as extras and assisting behind the scenes. Actual gang members were utilized to advise the lead actors, as well as portraying members of the fictional V.G.V. and 11th Street gangs. According to a 1979 Los Angeles Times article, assistant director Ramiro Jaloma called it a "breakthrough" that forty-eight adolescents from the community were able to appear on camera.
