About This Item
Venice, CA: A Tony Bill / Bill Beneson Production, 1978. Revised Draft script for the 1979 film, with rainbow revisions. Copied annotations throughout striking top right corner, revising revision dates, and adjusting dialogue.
Danny De La Paz, in his first screen appearance, portrays Chuco, a Chicano low-rider and member of the 11th Street gang, whose older brother Raymond, played by Richard Yniguez, is a former gang member trying to find a way to get Chuco out, before tensions rise to a full-on gang war between the 11th Street gang and rival gang Varrio Grande Vista (V.G.V.).
Shot entirely on location in the Mexican American community of East Los Angeles, "Boulevard Nights" employed the local Chicano community both as extras and assisting behind the scenes. Actual gang members were utilized to advise the lead actors, as well as portraying members of the fictional V.G.V. and 11th Street gangs. According to a 1979 Los Angeles Times article, assistant director Ramiro Jaloma called it a "breakthrough" that forty-eight adolescents from the community were able to appear on camera.
Beige titled wrappers. Title page present, dated October 4, 1978, noted as REVISED, with credits for screenwriters Desmond Nakano, Michael Scheff, and David Spector. 154 leaves, with last page of text numbered 120. Xerographic duplication, rectos only, with pink, green, and orange revision pages throughout, dated variously between 8/22/78 and 10/4/78. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine, bound internally with three gold brads.
