While the decision to show the continent skewed toward the right results in a large expanse of the Pacific Ocean being rendered, the map capitalizes on this effect by including the paths of many historical voyages, such as those of James Cook, which criss-cross the ocean and connect the US to its neighboring countries of Canada, Mexico, and the USSR. By contextualizing the United States' recent annexations within a long history of exploration, the map conveys the ideas underlying mid-century American identity. It is drawn according to Lambert's Azimuthal Equal Area Projection, a mode that accurately represents area.<BR> <BR> The map is in good condition with very light toning in areas of the ocean.
