London, Grant Richards 'Dumpy Book', 1902.. FIRST EDITION 1902, small 8vo, 125 x 77 mm, 5 x 3 inches, pale green cloth, striped and lettered dark green, (4), 95 pages. 24 charming colour plates. Text and plates printed 1 side only. A sweet fairy tale about a generous kind old man and a selfish mean old lady. Spine darkened, cloth lightly marked on lower cover, page edges very slightly darkened, inner joints cracked, binding sound and firm, no inscriptions. A very good copy of an uncommon Dumpy book. This celebrated Japanese artist was born in Japan in 1869, moved to San Francisco in 1894 and settled in Chelsea at the turn of the century, developing a great fondness for London.
