London, printed for William Sheeres, 1641.. TITLE CONTINUED: viz. 1: The originall of his promotion. 2: The continuance in his magnificence. 3: His fall, death, and buriall. Composed by one of his owne servants, being his gentleman-usher. FIRST EDITION 1641. Small 4to, approximately 175 x 130 mm, 7 x 5 inches, engraved frontispiece portrait of Cardinal Wolsey, woodcut to title page, woodcut headpieces and decorated initials, 3 pages of manuscript notes in an early hand, written on the endpapers at the front, correcting some errors and defects in Gilbert Burnets, History of the Reformation of the Church of England, with the date 1698. Pages: [12], 1-60, 57-118, some mispagination, text continuous however, all catchwords correct, see: ESTC R223198. Bound in full modern calf, gilt lettered label and date to spine, blind decoration to covers. Trimmed copy with the loss of a fine line underneath the portrait, slight fading and rubbing to spine, title page slightly dusty with a small pale spot to foot and tiny ink mark, tiny stab hole to inner margins from a previous binding, slight worm track to inner margins of pages 57-66, 1 tiny rust spot, age-browning to margins, otherwise a very good copy. Previously attributed to George Cavendish's older brother, Sir William Cavendish. George Cavendish entered into service for Cardinal Wolsey in 1522, and remained a close member of the household until Wolsey's death in 1530.
